Meet Chris Chen, one of our students here at Real English Victoria. Originally from Taiwan, she has been studying as a full-time student for only three months. She wrote a post about her experience on her Facebook and has given us permission to repost it on our blog. Thank you, Chris! We’re so proud of all that you’ve accomplished in your short time here.
From reading to conversation, it’s my goal. Now I can do it.
First time when I came here, I just could say, “My name is Chris, I’m from Taiwan, nice to see you, yes, no, thank you, and I’m fine.” That was it.
Last year my daughter recommended the school to me, so I came here to study for 2 months.
After that, three months later, I came back again. This time I can do daily conversation, I can go to bank to reset my password, I can go to the library and shops to get membership cards, buy something, and go to restaurants……… all by myself!
In my first time here, I gave a five-minute English presentation about coffee shops. Even though coffee is my job, I needed more than four weeks to prepare. This time, my teacher Penny, used a different teaching method.
She guided us how to express our thoughts, our opinions, describe pros and cons….. and then every Friday we have storytelling about that, so I have to reduce my preparation time. Last week I could finally do it, and better than myself last time. I was surprised and excited. I couldn’t believe I can do it.
I know I have passed first of the difficult stage of language learning, from “I don’t like English” to “I’m keen on studying English!”
I’m fifty~ish years old, but change is going on. If you want to change, you can’t go with just thinking.
Find your passion and your motivation, you will do better than me.
Chris also made and brought many delicious Taiwanese snacks and food to share! Thank you for your generosity! 谢谢, Chris! 你的滷肉饭很好吃！Your luroufan was delicious!
